Almost every significant local site had there rank on Google reduced this month, from B&Bs like kingbethunehouse.com, which lost rank on 27 search phrases, gained on only 3 and stayed unchanged on 5, to major players like super8peterborough.com, which lost 28, gained only 6, and had 10 unchanged from the previous month. The reason for this cross-the-board pattern appears to be a change to Google’s ranking algorithm which eroded local site rank across many industries, including hotels, motels, and B&Bs.

A few local players like villageinn.ca were able to gain rank for roughly as many phrases as were lost. Bestwesternotonabeeinn.com also didn’t do too badly, although almost none of their ranks are buried beneath page one.
